Privacy policy
Babio (“the app”) is an iOS application that helps parents log infant care events such as breastfeeds, pumping sessions, bottle feeds, diaper changes, and weight measurements. This document explains what data Babio handles, where that data lives, and what choices you have over it.
1. Who controls your data
Babio is an independent iOS app published from Australia. For privacy questions, contact dyncoch@gmail.com.
2. What data Babio handles
Babio handles only the data you enter into the app. That includes:
- The baby's name, date of birth, and (optionally) sex
- Breastfeed, pump, bottle-feed, diaper, and weight events that you log, with the timestamps and quantities you enter
- Your in-app preferences (units, theme, reminder schedule, active baby)
Babio does not collect:
- Your real name, email, address, phone number, or contacts
- Location data
- Photos or microphone input
- Advertising identifiers, browsing history, or usage analytics
- Any data from third-party services or SDKs (Babio uses none)
3. Where the data is stored
Babio stores your data in two places:
- On your device, in a local SwiftData database inside Babio's private app sandbox.
- In your own iCloud private database, automatically synced via Apple's CloudKit. CloudKit's “private database” is scoped to the iCloud account signed in on your device. Apple stores it on your behalf; the developer of Babio cannot read it, and no other user can access it without your credentials.
Babio does not run a server. There is no developer-controlled backend that receives your data. The only network connection Babio makes is to Apple's CloudKit and Apple's APNs (push notification) infrastructure, both of which are governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
4. How your data is used
The data is used solely to display, compute, and remind you of the events you've logged. It is never sold, shared, or used for advertising. There is no analytics framework in the app.
5. Local notifications
If you enable reminders, Babio schedules local notifications (managed by iOS on your device). No notification content is sent to a remote server. You can disable reminders at any time in Babio's Settings or in iOS Settings → Notifications → Babio.
6. Children's privacy
Babio is intended for use by adults to log their own infant's care events. The data Babio handles is about the user's child, not about the user as a child. Babio is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children directly. If you are a parent or guardian and want the data about your child removed, you can do so yourself by deleting it inside the app (no developer assistance required).
7. Your rights and choices
You have full control of your Babio data at all times:
- Export: Settings → Export My Data writes a JSON file with every event, which you can save anywhere you like.
- Import: Settings → Restore from backup loads a previously exported file.
- Delete on this device: deleting the app removes the local database.
- Delete from iCloud: signing out of iCloud, or removing Babio's data via Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Babio, removes the CloudKit-stored copy.
Under the EU GDPR and similar laws, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Because Babio holds no data on a developer-controlled server, these rights are exercised directly through the in-app actions above. If you need help, contact dyncoch@gmail.com.
8. Security
Data on your device is protected by iOS's standard data-at-rest encryption. Data in iCloud is protected by Apple's CloudKit security, including end-to-end encryption when you have iCloud Advanced Data Protection enabled. Babio adds no additional encryption layer of its own.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted at the same URL with a new “Last updated” date.
